“Who the hell are you? And why would any company in their right mind… just give you money?”

Ever ask yourself this question while reading a tweet stream…???

I have, quite often…and since Conference Season is quickly approaching…I am asking it more and more…

I don’t ask it in a melicious way…as in…”Who do you think you are?” …I ask it from a Brands perspective…since that is what I did in my “Old Life”…

WHO THE HELL ARE YOU???…is the Key Message…Do you even know??? In your 140 character tweet you have told me nothing about who YOU are or WHAT Brands you want to rep…

So it looks to me like your LAZY and just want a FREE RIDE…and you don’t give a rats ass what Brand you rep…this may not be the case…but this is the image your selling to people and to brands…

I AM A LAZY BLOGGER SOCIAL MEDIA SLUT… ready to hop into bed with any Brand that calls me Pretty & PAYS attention to me…

So I have a lead on a great hemorrhoidย Cream & Penis Growth Pill company that is willing to give a Blogger a FREE RIDE…takers??

Maybe I should ask these tweeters….

LUV the first one…not asking for much…

At least this person knows she wants baby products…1 step ahead of the others…

Tweeting a link to a blog page telling people what they will get for their $1500 is not enough…it’s not AS Lazy but still on the sloth like spectrum…

So many times I have received cards from bloggers at conferences and their sponsor is on the other side, which is great…

Until I visit their blog and see that they have no past history or interest in “Rust Proofing & Under Coating from Frank’s Lube it All”. Their blog is about breastfeeding or Gluten Free Cooking…Where is the Connection???

Oh ya FREE RIDE…All credibility GONE!

No one will ever value YOU or your opinion if they know it’s bought and not “On Brand”…Get paid for what you DO not what you SAY!!

So…I have decided to do a Giveaway for Blogher 12... I am not Sponsoring anyone… because in my line of work that has a totally different meaning…

This is what is up for Grabs…

FULL Blogher Conference Pass = $298

New Social Media Head Shot = $75

New Facebook Page Timeline Photo = $35

DRINKS with me in NYC! = PriceLess…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What do you have to do to Win It…NOT BE A LAZY BLOGGER...

You need to put together a proposal…geared towards the EXACT BRANDS you WANT to work with…Everyone has their DREAM brands they want to work with…One of mine is Louboutin..Could you imagine..FABOOSH..You will NEVER see me pimping Crocs…

So go for it…why would you short sell yourself?

Don’t you want to Spend a FAB weekend in NYC talking about and showin the love for a brand you respect and feel good about…? You don’t want to feel like you have to take a shower after every encounter…Dirty Blogger…

Your proposal can be Power Point…PDF…Video…But NO BLOG POSTS ALLOWED…All proposals must be emailed to me or upload to You Tube if you are doing a video.

How you will be judge…ON EVERYTHING…

I will be posting ALL the entries…people will be commenting on them..On a BE NICE OR PISS OFF STANDARD…no trolls allowed…

You will be Judged on your Twitter, FaceBook and any other Social Media Presence that you have…You need to have the FULL PACKAGE…

I will also be adding your Twitter handle to a Special Stream…that will be checked by me and my “Team” to make sure your not being A LAZY BLOGGER and tweeting looking for sponsorship…You need to be Tweeting people the link to the post where your proposal is and letting everyone know how FAB you are that way…

A Lot of WORK?? Damn straight…and you and YOUR BRAND are worth it…No Freebies here…

Just think…by doing all this great work and sending your now FABOOSH proposal around to the right brands…You may land that Sponsorship after all…How FABOOSH would that feel…?? If nothing else…You will have creating an amazing proposal that you can use for all the other FAB conference you want to attend…Your Welcome ๐Ÿ˜‰

Where to email your Proposal … dee@Cocktaildeeva.com

Love this Dee!! There are so many people out there that seem to accept any freebie they can and it drives me nuts. I would rather miss out on something I would love to do {which I have had to several times due to budget} rather than have to pretend to support something I have no interest in just so I can go.

    • Dee wrote on March 28, 2012 at 3:48 //

Agreed..I hate when people are Tweeting about fab 1 car brand is 1 day and then another the next …then this Phone then that phone..all to get free shit..parties etc…PICK A SIDE…Do some work…GAH!

  • Maria @amotherworld wrote on March 28, 2012 at 3:28 //

Ahaha this is too funny Dee! Thank you for your honesty. It sounds very desperate when people ask for freebies on Twitter. If you’re looking for sponsors, you must be professional about it. Have a proposal ready and target your market. FAB contest!

  • Kristin wrote on March 28, 2012 at 3:30 //

Damn hard work. But I wouldn’t use the word lazy, I’d say scared. Putting together a proposal that might be rejected is terrifing, so I think folks send out a half hearted effort to protect themselves. I’ve decided not to attend BlogHer this year but I’ve got some hard tasks on my to do list, I’ll tackle them instead.

    • Dee wrote on March 28, 2012 at 3:40 //

Awesome point Kristin…it is easier and way less scary just to tweet it out or post it to Facebook and hope for the best…It’s the taking on of Brands you really don’t stand behind or going to things even if you could care a less about the message just because it’s FREE…That Fear of rejection is awful…but one day, if you have the right tools prepared..someone will say yes…Thanks for reading and the comment..Cheers

So basically you want people with some integrity who are willing to work for what they get? It’s a shame that, A) none of the lathe manufacturers I am interested in are into social media and, B) I have certain equipment that disqualifies me from BlogHer. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Love this post Dee.

    • Cherie-Lynn wrote on March 28, 2012 at 9:24 //

Steve there were a ton of men at the last BlogHer that I attended attended. If you want to go don’t let the Her in the name stop you.

      • Steve Kubien wrote on March 28, 2012 at 11:25 //

Really? Hmmm, something to consider then. Thanks. Now, will you sponsor me? I want to look nice so Hugo Boss casual wear would be great. There are evening events so I’ll need 2 suits and at least 4 shirts as well because I kinda sweat a lot. Some help with airfare would be good too. I’ve got this twitchy leg thing going on so it is really important for me to travel business class. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know. :))))

Good on you, Dee. I just sold my ticket to BlogHer (sad panda face) but I’m already tired of the ‘sponsor me’ tweets. I get that it’s good to get free stuff and work with a brand in a way that’s beneficial to both but yes, let’s not be lazy about it. I’d like to see more tweets like “Am looking for someone to provide me with clothes for BlogHer. Please DM me and I will email you my proposal”

    • Dee wrote on March 28, 2012 at 3:53 //

WHAT YOUR NOT GOING (sad GIANT Panda Face) We were supposed to have Drinkies after the Talkies…I am so tired of Sponsor me tweets…annoys the hell out of me..right up there with PR FRIENDLY…GAH

  • Andrea wrote on March 28, 2012 at 3:50 //

Ahhh! What a wonderful idea! And how motivating! This is why I don’t do sponsors. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I don’t even know where to begin in trying to find someone and don’t even know how to package myself and my blog appropriately-so like someone mentioned, I’m scared to try. But I also don’t do a 1/2ass attempt at it, either. Great offer to someone who is on that road here. I wish I had the motivation to do a package for myself. Maybe you’ve kickstarted me. Either way, great thoughts shared here.

    • Dee wrote on March 28, 2012 at 7:46 //

      DO IT!!!! Kicking Ass Now!!!

  • Sharon wrote on March 28, 2012 at 4:03 //

Also, isn’t working with a brand you don’t believe in like faking an orgasm? The other person walks away satisfied and you’re left sleeping in the wet spot – or something like that.

    • Dee wrote on March 28, 2012 at 7:48 //

This made coffee come out my nose…SO TRUE…

      • Steve Kubien wrote on March 28, 2012 at 7:57 //

Someday, somewhere I want to sit with both of you, quaff delicious drinkie drinkies…and know that I will laugh until I pee.

  • SoberJulie wrote on March 28, 2012 at 4:21 //

Whilst I may be seen by some as a media whore, I’m in for this one DEE!! I cringe when I see peeps tweeting for a sponsor….I’m planning my pitch for you now.

    • Dee wrote on March 28, 2012 at 7:49 //

      CAN”T WAIT!!!

  • Julia wrote on March 28, 2012 at 5:02 //

I worked really hard on a PDF that outlines what I will do for a sponsor. I tweet on rare occasion to see if anyone in my stream is interested. I wouldn’t accept just anyone. I have been meaning to do up a video to accompany my PDF and this is just the boost I need. Guess I’d better get to work. I’d love to talk shoes over drinks!

    • Dee wrote on March 28, 2012 at 7:53 //

That hard work pays off…brands appreciate it and you seem 10000 more professional..It shows you take what you do seriously…And Yes..Shoe Chat and cocktails would be FABOOSH…Cheers

  • Aeryn Lynne wrote on March 28, 2012 at 7:11 //

Hey, what’s wrong with Crocs?? ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been trying to figure out how to create tweets to show I’m interested in sponsors – heck, I’ve been putting off creating a page that states my plan, ’cause I’m still attempting to figure out what I can offer that doesn’t conflict with BlogHer rules. *shrugs*

I like Sharon’s idea of “DM me for the proposal” bit, ’cause there’s just so much to say with only 140 characters.

    • Dee wrote on March 28, 2012 at 7:55 //

Just start somewhere..with anything…put anything down on paper..Google Blog Convention proposals…something is sure to come up…I am sure you can put together something fabulous…because it’s about YOU….

  • Dana (@DragynAlly) wrote on March 28, 2012 at 8:15 //

    I’m so in! I think I will do a video… Maybe. Did I mention I’m scared?!

  • Robin Edwards wrote on March 28, 2012 at 9:11 //

You, woman, are the bomb! I was looking at some of the US bloggers looking for sponsorship and was crying with laughter. “Even though the conference only lasts 3 days, please be advised that I will not have access to laundry facilities, and therefore would prefer 6 t-shirts with your brand/logo on it, as I LIKE WEAR CLEAN CLOTHES!” Wow! And BTW, since the lovely Sharon won’t be going, that means you have to Havd drinks with me!

  • Cherie-Lynn wrote on March 28, 2012 at 9:27 //

Sponsor Me! Hell I’d be thrilled if my favourite brands just followed me.

  • Maija @ Maija's Mommy Moments wrote on March 29, 2012 at 12:23 //

So… I already have my ticket and all that jazz (although now that you mention it I could use some new shoes) and haven’t posted one single sponsor me tweet BUT I would really like to enter the drinks with Dee contest – when are the entry details coming for that? ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Dee wrote on March 29, 2012 at 1:14 //

LOL we can have drinks anytime..for sure!!!

  • @jspd jana wrote on March 28, 2012 at 9:25 //

can we have drinks even if I don’t win??!?

  • Hollie wrote on March 28, 2012 at 9:31 //

This year I guess I am lucky I planned and saved for BLOGHER for a YEAR. Found my roommate, set a bduget, and any work I have gotten paid for on my site has gone to the BLOGHER acct but then I turned around and got a JOB. Means I still get to be in the room, but now my role is different. But I had the money SAVED before I landed my JOB. If u want to be THERE it is possible even with no sponsor YOU just have to want and PLAN.

    • Dee wrote on March 29, 2012 at 1:15 //

Agree..if you want something and work hard…you can have it…Well Done and Congrats on the gig…

  • angela ( angfromthedock ) wrote on March 28, 2012 at 9:35 //

this is f***ing awesome:). i am not entering because i already have a ticket ( why? i am not sure. purely for the company i think ) but i will search you out for drinks. this is going to be great to watch:)

    • Dee wrote on March 29, 2012 at 1:15 //

      Drinks it is!!!

  • alimartell wrote on March 29, 2012 at 8:15 //

Wow. The ick factor is super super high with people publicly asking ON TWITTER for someone to pay for them to GO TO A CONFERENCE. I really honestly and legitimately don’t understand.

    • Dee wrote on March 29, 2012 at 1:17 //

Agreed Ali…I don’t get it either…In my mind..Hard Work pays off…or did I not get a memo??? Thanks for your comment Cheers

  • Dana Jackson wrote on March 29, 2012 at 11:11 //

Just the dose of reality, with a dash of motivation I was looking for. Thanks, Dee. My proposal will be the one laced with bribery and fabulous innuendo.

    • Dee wrote on March 29, 2012 at 1:17 //

YAY..Can’t wait to see it Dana…CHEERS

  • Nerina wrote on March 29, 2012 at 12:22 //

As usual Dee, your raw honesty and ‘get off your ass’ whipping has really made me dig deep and analyze what my little dogs breakfast of a blog is all about…thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Shell wrote on March 29, 2012 at 4:41 //

Love this! I wrote a post a while back about how to get a blog conference sponsorship and I advised against those tweets. It makes people seem like they’ll represent anyone as long as they are given enough money for it. And who wants someone like that?

  • Jen wrote on March 29, 2012 at 8:48 //

Thank You for writing this..I’ve noticed they’ve begun again already and yes…very annoying. Worth unfollowing and I don’t care if I get called out. I’m not going to Blogher, basically because I chose to get a house this year. If I can’t afford to go on my own, than it doesn’t happen…that being said..I am sponsored to an upcoming fall fabulous conference in Canada…by a company I’ve worked with for well over a year. No free rides people…get to work or get out.

  • geekbabe wrote on March 29, 2012 at 9:47 //

I bought my ticket to Blogher, if sponsorship comes, it’ll most likely be from brands who I have a working relationship with already. PR reps I know & like, products I actually like & use. If sponsorship doesn’t come, I’ll foot my own bills, I’m worth the investment:)

  • Trevor Cherewka wrote on March 30, 2012 at 8:29 //

Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Blogging has spawned a whole new level of selling out. Obviously I have not been to Blogher but heard for weeks after last years event from everyone that was sponsored AND from those that were not.

    Two things to consider:

    A) blogging isn’t the worlds highest paid profession and B) Blogher is not cheap to attend so it is easy to see why people would sell their writing soul in exchange for a ticket.

Love it or hate it, it is here to stay.

  • Deborah / Mom2Michael wrote on March 31, 2012 at 2:35 //

Well said Dee. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with sponsorship when it makes sense and is a well-thought out agreement and good match. I have never understood the random “sponsor me” tweets – do they ever pay off? I can’t imagine that they would. Where is the research and the targeted approach?

I do my share of reviews and enjoy me some free things to try out and share with my friends and family, but I hope I don’t sound desperate when I try to engage!

  • Matt wrote on April 1, 2012 at 3:47 //

This is so true! There is a big problem with people taking the word of these bloggers for fact when they will do just about anything for a buck! Kinda reminds me of a little movie called: Thank-you for Smoking.

  • Coffee with Julie wrote on April 3, 2012 at 9:55 //

Yeah, I just don’t get it. Do sponsors actually respond to those tweets? If I was a brand, I wouldn’t. I’d want someone to contact me directly with a customized proposal specific to my brand’s needs. It’s like a freelance writer tweeting: “Hi! I want some work. Hire me, okay? Thanks!” It just doesn’t work that way.

  • Sarah Taylor wrote on April 4, 2012 at 5:16 //

Well well. I am a #Blogher virgin. Conference virgin. Sponsor virgin. I hear @shopwithrobin talk about this and how its the shit….Now I wonder. Will a tool wielding redhead from small town Oakville make it? Never even entered my head until THE DIVA wrote this post. What to do? What to do?

  • Joy Vogel-Lahti (@joyskitchen) wrote on April 8, 2012 at 9:35 //

OMG – that was the funniest – yet truest comparison @sharon re: faking orgasm … I am going to have to set some time aside and do this contest!

  • Shash wrote on April 10, 2012 at 10:55 //

I am still sitting on my BlogHer tix… stupid me didn’t book a damn room. #knob. Maybe I’ll sleep in the alley and drink with you during the day! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Michelle wrote on April 10, 2012 at 3:23 //

Great idea. I was partially sponsored last year but I went and did the work to get those sponsors.
Can I enter if I already have a ticket? This would really help me get to NYC.

  • @FeliciaDewar wrote on April 16, 2012 at 8:16 //

I would love to enter just because I love creating sponsorship packages but chances are slim that I would be able to go to BlogHer – as fabulous as that would be!
